Daria Deflorian torna al Romaeuropa Festival in veste di regista e attrice per portare in scena insieme a Monica Piseddu, Paolo Musio e Gabriele Portoghese il gesto misterioso, potente, irrazionale quanto politico di Yeong-hye, protagonista de “La vegetariana”, romanzo della scrittrice sudcoreana Han Kang.
Un testo sensuale, provocatorio, ricco di immagini potenti, colori sorprendenti e domande inquietanti: il rifiuto radicale, categorico quanto violento di una donna che sceglie di non mangiare più carne dà il via ad un graduale processo di metamorfosi.
Mentre Yeong-hye cambia, cercando di diventare essa stessa vegetazione, ecco che è l’intero mondo che la circonda a vivere l’impatto della sua trasformazione: dall’irritazione sconcertata del marito, all’esaltazione artistica del cognato fino alla consapevolezza addolorata della sorella.
L’umanità è dannosa, furiosa, assassina, violenta, tutte cose che Yeong-hye non vuole essere. Lei non vuole smettere di vivere. Vuole smettere di vivere come noi.
